Experience of presenting my own research

After we finish the analysis of data, we have to prepare our presentation in a few days. We have to prepare the slide for our presentation and power-point is the program we choose. First, we discuss among group that which size and font we should use, then which colour of font and background we should use to make our audience easy to seeĀ and can follow the topic we are presenting. Moreover, we talk in deeper point, which is how to make our audience understand our information data.

On the presentation day, we choose the light colour of back ground with the black font to make it clear looking. We provide our data in the percentage with many charts such as pie chart, bar chart and table chart. We explained the whole methods from the way collecting data to analysis of data. We put the conclusion and recommendation at the end of slide in the presentation. However, we received some feedbacks from lecturer. The lecturer said we miss some key information which is research topic. We totally forget because we are too much focusing on how to get attention from the audience. Finally, we got the score lower than we expected.

From this situation, I have learnt that I should concern the important thing first range it from most important to less important. I should do the important thing and follow the instructions rather than focusing on colour and font of Powerpoint slides. I learn from this mistake to adapt myself in the future.

Experience of collecting and analysing data

When we collect the questionnaire, we can collect only 109 out of 120 sets of questionnaire. We face 11 error questionnaires in total. Some errors caused by the respondent unwilling to answer some questions in our aper while some questionnaires were losing. From these 109 sets of questionnaire, we collect 54 sets of student, 35 sets from private employee, 7 sets from public employee and 20 sets from both government’s officer and business’s owner, which are 10 sets for each. However, only 3 sets we can collect from executive manager. We stand like couple of hours to distribute and collect just only 20 questionnaires. This is so difficult for us.

When we analysing the data, we use Microsoft Excel to see the data and compare it easily. We have to put our information into one file, so we decided to let the leader collect it. We send Excel file to him, which provide the data of 20 sets of questionnaire and send to him. After that, we bring these datas to build up the chart. We have built the pie chart, bat chart, line chart and even table chart in order to see and understand these information clearly.

I have found that analysing data is not so difficult but collecting data is. We are lucky that prepare 120 sets of questionnaire instead of 100 sets. Moreover, distributing questionnaire without giving the gifts for respondent is hard. They are busy through this place because most of them are working people and they do not want to do something for free. I have learnt that next time if I have to distribute the questionnaire again, I will find something to attract them.

Experience of designing a questionnaire

First we discuss on how to design the questionnaire that make the respondent willing to fill the answer. We have some argument among group members because some of us agree on set a lot of questions and providing a gift for respondent such as chocolate to spend some times to filling our questionnaire while most of us agree on set a few questions.

Later on, we agree on set up a few questions on our questionnaire and design a attractive font and design on our paper to make more interest in the respondents. Moreover, we create the interesting questions which are very useful in opening a real coffee shop in liver street. Our research topic is ‘what are the factors that influence the place attachment for coffee shop located in Liverpool street’. We have 4 factors and 3 questions from each factor. To do so, we set only 12 questions in total, 11 for closed end questions and 1 for opened question. We decide to distribute 120 questionnaire to reach the most accuracy information from people in this area. We have divide for 15 questionnaire to distribute for each member in our group in the Liverpool street and 5 questionnaire through social media to get wide range of data.

To conclude, I found that the most difficult part in designing the questionnaire is how to make it attractive and how to make people spend some times to filling our questionnaire. Although, our group members has different idea because of different culture and countries but finally our ideas becoming one.
